Yirgacheffe is the most heralded coffee region in Ethiopia, known for producing delicate and complex coffees that are loved by coffee aficionados around the world. Koke is a small district in the northeastern part of Yirgacheffe, and one of the most mountainous areas of Yirgacheffe, reaching heights of almost 6,000 feet. Indigenous coffee varietals, elevation, and soil composition contribute to the sweetness, acidity, and complex flavors found in Koke coffee. After picking, the ripe coffee cherries are milled at the Koke washing station owned by Solomon Worku, who has produced award winning coffees in recent years. Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Koke was the Winner of the 2010 Roasters’ Choice Tasting Competition, a national competition that allows attendees of the annual Specialty Coffee Association of America exhibition to vote for their favorite coffee during a blind tasting.
